I spent fifteen years writing software before I spent fifteen years pastoring. Not a sideline — a full vocation in each. The engineering years: production systems, API design, distributed architecture, full-stack development. Then a complete second career in pastoral ministry: hospital chaplaincy, crisis response, grief support, funerals, one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education, Stephen Leader training. Now I am bringing both seasons together. The engineering skills enable the care work at scale. The pastoral formation shapes what the engineering builds. Neither was a detour. Both were the preparation.
